Jovenes en Camino has many spiritual, financial and physical needs. The work at Jovenes en Camino is filled with many challenges. To raise, educate and train approximately 80 boys that come from very difficult and challenging backgrounds requires much prayer. We ask that you keep the children, director and employees of Jovenes en Camino in your prayers.
It requires $28,000 per month to operate Jovenes en Camino. Jovenes en Camino is completely funded by individuals, churches, foundations. All size gifts make a difference and are needed and greatly appreciated. Here are some ways that you can help:
At any time you can send a donation of any amount that can be used for the general operating expenses at Jovenes en Camino. There are utilities, employee salaries, routine maintenance, fuel and equipment costs, many things that are needed just as we have at home like laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, pest control, kitchen needs, farm and garden needs and the list can go on. Although not glamorous, these contributions keep Jovenes en Camino open and operating.
You may want to designate your contribution to be used in the following ways:
$50.00/ purchase a backpack and school supplies
$100.00/ school uniforms and shoes
$200.00/ clothing for growing boys
You can be a child sponsor. To sponsor a child is a larger financial commitment. We ask that $300/month be pledged to fully sponsor a child. You will receive information and a photo of the child and correspondence at least two times per year. This sponsorship is done with the understanding that the child you are initially assigned may change during the year due to a variety of possible circumstances. Most children come to Jovenes en Camino and will stay, but sometimes they must move. Every child will benefit greatly by having a sponsor. There are never enough sponsors, so we will inform you if a change occurs. Some individuals, churches groups, etc. will co-sponsor a child with another group/individual. You may be interested in partially funding or fully funding some of the following needs and projects at Jovenes en Camino
Supporting a Full Time Psychologist: Because the children at Jovenes en Camino have come from very desparate circumstances, often having been abused, suffered the loss of parents, endured neglect and poverty, lived on the streets, may have abused drugs...a full time psychologist is needed and has been strongly suggested as a necessary service by the child protective services in Honduras. The psychologist will council the children as well as the employees on proper discipline and support of the children. The salary of a full time psychologist at Jovenes en Camino is $900/month.
Playground Equipment: Currently a playground exists, but is in need of repairs and partial replacement for safety (estimated $12,000)
Housing/Furnishings: New interior bedroom furniture. The current furniture is in need of repair/replacement. Much of this furniture is built on site by the Jovenes en Camino carpenter with the help of the boys. (estimated $5,000)
Infrastructure: Jovenes en Camino is plagued with a drainage problem that has become a health hazard. There is a great need for a new septic tank and dedicated lines separating gray water from the sanitary waste lines. ($10,000 - $15,000)
Storm water drainage lines, retention pond and pump to new ditch system in the road. The goal is to have the work performed using staff and volunteers to keep the cost down as much as possible. (est. $50,000)
Laundry/multi-purpose room: This facility would house commercial laundry equipment already purchased, linens and supplies. It would also contain a small activities/game room. (est. $80,000)
Kitchen Equipment/Food Preparation: There is a need for a walk-in refrigerator/freezer for the kitchen. Depressed slabs are present in the kitchen and these larger cold storage systems would greatly reduce food costs and delivery needs.
